All I Ask of You

Careful there, you have my heart,
Watch what you do with it.
Although my love for you is strong
Flout it and you’ll lose it.
A fearful thing, it has seen much pain –
My heart ought not be a toy.
Please don’t toss it about and scare it more,
And, pray, do not be coy.
Just care for me and love me well.
Be my strength when I can’t stand.
Shield me from the harsh light of life
And please, please understand.
And if this burden you undertake,
My friend do not my poor heart break.
